This week on twitter, I followed new research accounts, surfed twitter using hashtags, and created 3 new posts! Additionally, I read and commented on one of my classmates blog posts.

Following New Accounts

The three accounts I followed this week were all scientists/researchers for animals. The first account was Alan McElligott, who is an associate professor in animal behavior and welfare. I was able to find this account by going through the following of my classmates who are researching corvids. The second account I followed was Joanna Wu, a PhD student at UCLA who focuses on birds. I found her account by looking through my suggested follows on the mobile app. And finally, I followed Jeff Wells, a scientist who posts lots of birds and information about them. This account was also found by browsing through my suggested follows.

Surfing With Hashtags

ree

I really enjoyed looking at the different hashtags that people would use to talk about crows. I searched and browsed through: #crows, #crowintelligence, and #CrowOrNo. My favorite to look through was definitely the latter, with one of it's posts pictured to the left. #CrowOrNo was created by expert crow researcher Kaeli Swift. She would use this hashtag to post pictures of different birds and have her following guess if it was a crow or another species of bird that looked like one. Although this hashtag is about a year old, I still had fun scrolling and looking through it.

New Posts!

ree

I created three new twitter posts this week, each of them based on the three new articles that I annotated, found on this website on the Research Agenda page. My favorite twitter post that I created was the one pictured here, about Kaeli Swift's study on why crows will gather around their dead. I think I wrote this tweet well because I communicated the complex research in an effective and understandable way. I also think the first catchphrase "Why do crows hold funerals?" helped to attract people's attention, along with the cute image of a drawing of a crow funeral.

Responding to a Classmate's Blog

Lastly, I responded to one of my classmate's blog on their website. I decided to respond to Tiffany's, which was her most recent twitter tuesday post. I enjoyed reading it and learning more about penguins. I also liked how much she expanded on all of the accounts she followed, really taking the reader step by step.
